Accepting online meal vouchers in your webshop
A recent study by Partena Professional* showed that 63% of all employees received meal vouchers in the first quarter of 2021. The year before, this share was 61%. This upward trend has been continuing for several years and does not seem to be slowing down.
Most employees indicate that they are satisfied with the meal vouchers, but they also complain about the limited selection of merchants that accept them. As a result, many people tend to spend them exclusively in supermarkets or familiar stores they visit on a daily or weekly basis.
The reason for this limited selection is that merchants often face high setup costs to accept meal vouchers. This is usually due to the integration with existing POS systems and payment terminals. Because support is often required for this, those costs are passed on to the merchants.
However, it does not have to be this way. All meal voucher issuers also offer a solution for accepting online payments with meal vouchers. There are no setup costs involved. Only a fixed percentage is deducted from each transaction. This means you can start immediately without a high investment cost.
